SINORMS Academy is an exciting enrichment program to motivate and expose underserved/underrepresented youth to the field of medicine. The programs is designed for 7th and 8th graders interested in pursuing a medical arts career and are in need of assistance in enhancing their STEM skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and confidence).

BUF of MI in collaboration with the Wayne State Medical School and the NEDO Group will offer stimulating hands on activities, interactions with medical professionals, field trips and energizing group exercises that promote STEM skills.

The Academy offers first level exposure to various professionals in the medical field and seeks to motivate youth to aspire to pursue medical art careers.

After the summer Academy, youth will have the opportunity to continue exploring their interest in a medical career by enrolling in BUF’s Future Docs for Tomorrow program.


  • Student-driven laboratory activities

  • Tours/trips to medical facilities

  • Presentation by various medical professionals

  • Medical games and puzzles

  • Hands-on science activities

  • First Aid training for medical emergencies

  • Healthy living skills


Admission is offered to 7th & 8th grade (Fall 2019) boys and girls who have an interest in the medical field and wish to improve their academic scholarship for advance placement in high school – an academic prerequisite for success in the medical arts profession. Applications will be screened. Students will be selected based on meeting the following criteria.

  • Successful completion and submission of program package by June 21, 2019

  • Underserved/underrepresented 7th and 8th graders with a passion for science

  • Youth residing in the tri-county metropolitan area of Detroit

  • Youth with a minimum 2.5 G.P.A.

  • Submission of current report card

  • Letter of reference from a school counselor or school administrator

  • Program Commitment Form

  • Written completion of a Letter of Interest
