No. It serves organizations and needs outside the traditional funding
institutional objective. Primarily, the small, start up, and emerging
programs seek alternative funding agencies like The Black United
Fund of Michigan, Inc..
What
is meant by the definition of "Alternative Funding"?
Alternative Funding are those funds and resources made available
through non- traditional funding organizations. Today, The Black
United Fund of Michigan, Inc. is now considered a "Fund of
Choice" for start-up organizations and programs. The Black
United Fund of Michigan, Inc., along with a few others spearheaded
the alternative funding thrust in 1970.
What
are the advantages of diversified donor opportunities in the workplace?
Overall employee donor participation and total donations increase.
Employees feel more involved in the community giving process. More
resources become available for the community. Company's positive
image as an employer is enhanced.
Who
determines the allocations of resources?
Requests for funds and/or services are submitted to the BUF Board
of Directors/Screening Committee. They review all written proposals.

Does
BUF provide services other than annual allocations?
Yes. Through referrals, consultative service to individuals and
groups who desire to initiate community programs. BUF also provides
professional assistance in proposal development.

or personnel cost?
Although Federal Law allows 25% for administrative overhead, The
Black United Fund of Michigan, Inc. spends approximately 9-12% with
little or no "in kind services" support for operational
costs.

BUF have a National Affiliate Organization?
Yes, there are twenty cities currently involved in the national
organization. NBUF (National Black United Fund) is primarily an
information sharing-support group rather than the traditional franchise
operation.
Who
receives the money raised by Black United Fund?
The organizations The Black United Fund of Michigan, Inc. funds
are listed in your brochure. These organizations collectively reflect
the different needs of our community - from the displaced homeless,
and at risk children, to the elderly.
